Students and teachers of Mount Litera Zee School, HSR Layout visit Mitra Jyothi

A school plays a vital role in shaping the personality of a child. Just as the school provides lessons on reading, writing and arithmetic, from the very beginning it also focuses on helping the kids learn about compassion, respect, empathy and integrity.

Accordingly, 185 students from grade 4 accompanied with 7 teachers visited Mitra Jyothi on 10th Feb’20 with a purpose to give the children a social experience of an NGO in an authentic setting.

The children and teachers were seated in the Mitra Jyothi auditorium where our team first showed them a video about life in Mitra Jyothi. Then the students saw the art & craft done by visually impaired, white cane, Braille equipment like the slate, few games especially designed for Visually Impaired - cricket ball, chess board etc.

We requested 2 students from our current batch to show how to read braille books in Kannada and English to our guests. Then it was the school students turn to try to read Braille and identify tactile images. Madhu Ji also assisted them in this process. They also tried to walk with the help of a cane and eyes closed.

This was followed by a Q&A session. The little minds were full of so many innocent queries about the lifestyle of a visually impaired. Madhu ji patiently answered them all.

The field trip ended with a vote of thanks from the teachers. They appreciated the opportunity given to the students to get a sneak peek into the life of a visually impaired.
