21 Visually Impaired Students of Mitra Jyothi Successfully Complete TCS World 10K
Marathon
On May 15, 2022, 21 of our visually impaired students successfully participated in the TCS
World 10K Bengaluru Marathon under the ‘Champions with Disability’ category (4.2 km). Our
team demonstrated remarkable determination and spirit throughout the event.
As an organization committed to the empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs),
especially those with vision impairment (VI), Mitra Jyothi continuously encourages active
engagement in all aspects of society. Despite ongoing discussions about inclusivity, individuals
with disabilities often remain excluded from mainstream activities. This marathon showcased the
capabilities of our students and promoted inclusivity.
Our 21 students completed the 4.2 km course with immense enthusiasm. Despite moments of
exhaustion, their determination never wavered, and they finished the run in high spirits.
Thirumalesh, one of our participants, shared: “I never had such an opportunity before. After
completing this marathon, I feel proud and confident. I always wanted to join my friends in
running races, but my vision impairment held me back. I am grateful to Mitra Jyothi for fulfilling
this long-time wish.”

All participants were awarded medals and honored by the organizers. Mr. Sayed Mansoor, our
computer instructor who is visually impaired himself, addressed the audience, emphasizing that
individuals with vision impairment can achieve anything if systems and processes are accessible.
He highlighted that true disability exists only when accessibility is lacking.
This marathon not only celebrated our students’ achievements but also reinforced the importance
of accessibility in creating an inclusive society. Mitra Jyothi remains dedicated to empowering
people with disabilities and advocating for a more inclusive world.
